Shropshire Eco House

Full planning consent has been granted to build an ‘eco house’ on rural land in Shropshire.

Architects Johnson Design Partnership of Bridgnorth, who specialise in eco building projects, say they are delighted their designs have met with resounding approval from planners.

The house will be sited within a conservation in the Shropshire countryside and designers say it will be completely in keeping with the character and history of the village.

‘We are extremely pleased that plans have been approved for this superb new property,’ said Johnson Design Partnership managing director Vic Johnson.

Although this is not a paragraph 79 house (formerly paragraph 55), it is a unique and special design and will be an eco house. It has been designed and will be built to have a relatively low environmental impact, be energy efficient with low running costs and will include features that enhance health and well-being.

We’re aiming to achieve a five star rating under the Government’s Code for Sustainable Homes, which equates to a one hundred per cent improvement on the conservation of fuel and power standards within building regulations.

There are four ecologically focused principles encompassed within the design: The construction incorporates local and indigenous materials wherever possible, from sustainable sources, and low-energy build methods; it consumes minimal energy; it is heated using low energy systems which feature an integrated combination of ground source heat pump and underflow heating; it is easily adapted to the changing needs of occupants using minimal load bearing internal partitions.

The design concept for the potential eco-orientated family home is that wherever reasonably possible resources are carefully and conscientiously consumed and the by-products are recycled.

This property also incorporates grey water recycling, for example storing water onsite and then re-using it where ever possible for flushing toilets etc.

The design aims for a more resource balanced approach and is therefore much more environmentally friendly – ultimately, the design is also as carbon neutral as possible.

The ecological value of the site may also be enhanced thanks to the construction of a sizeable wildlife pond, incorporating an area of wildlife garden, and the establishment of new hedgerows.
