Striking the balance – Open plan kitchen/dining rooms are certainly the preferred choice in modern homes, providing a gathering space for the whole family and the opportunity to entertain. However, we do also see a requirement for individual areas too, designer nooks and crannies that offer a little seclusion and the opportunity to have five minutes relaxation.
These areas could be alcoves or recesses with window seats, snugs, reading rooms or studies, important spaces designed in to offer some rest bite from our hectic modern lives, somewhere to settle down with a good book or take in a view.
One of our recently completed projects a split-level open area, has ticked all the boxes, creating a large kitchen/ diner and a snug/garden room all with fantastic elevated views, connection to the garden and flooded with natural light. It is adaptable and versatile, great for entertaining with friends and family but also warm and homely for those quieter times.
